This breed was developed during the 1800’s in Great Britain. The breeder, Lord Tweedmouth, wanted a doggie that was spirited,energetic, kind, loyal, and so on. Categorized as a sporting pet, the typical Golden Retriever male weighs is around 65-75 lbs. and the female Golden Retriever slightly smaller at around 55-65 lbs. As adults Golden females stand 21.5-22.5 inches and males stand 23-24 inches. Goldens’coats are several shades of gold.
The “Retriever” has a water repellent and also weather resistant double coat. The firm, resilient outer coat can be straight or wavy. The legs and tail are feathered with longer hair while the under coat is dense and soft in texture. The coat color varies in shades of cream to gold and is lustrous and rich. The Golden is a heavy shedder.

Caring for a Retriever dog can be time consuming. The coat of them requires daily and thorough brushing with a firm bristle brush. He or she should be dry shampooed regularly, and bathed only when essential with a mild dog shampoo to keep from drying out their skin. They are prone to hip dysplasia, cataracts, and skin allergies so regular veternarian check-ups are absolutely necessary. These lovely dogs do have a tendency to gain weight so it is very important not to over feed this breed.
Golden Retrivers will do okay in a flat dwelling provided they are sufficiently exercised. Golden`s requires daily exercise and they enjoy play sessions with their family, retrieving balls and other dog toys very much. They are moderately active indoors and do great with a medium to large sized securely fenced yard.
Puppies of this breed should be bought from Golden Retriever breeders with reputation who should be able to provide documentation from the American Kennel Club for instance or similar registry organization. Ideally, you should be able to see the parents of the dog. An option to buying a puppy is to adopt a “Retriever” from a Golden Retriever rescue or other rescue organization.
